It wasn't hard to imagine that it was only a matter of time before someone figured out how to jailbreak DJI's "smart" batteries. After all, $100+ is a little steep and presented a huge opportunity for anyone capable of putting together a suitable alternative.....enter MaxAmps.com!

The new MaxAmps 4S 5600 Phantom 2 battery set is designed specifically for the DJI Phantom 2 and Phantom 2 Vision. It comes with 4S taps on both batteries for charging along with an additional 3S tap on one battery that is wired for the Unlocked DJI Phantom 2 cap.
This new 4S setup will give you better performance, more flight time, and a charge time of less than 20 minutes in your DJI Phantom 2 Vision. With higher voltage and capacity, you will get a 30% increase in overall power over the stock battery.

So, how it works is that they take a Phantom 2 "smart" battery pack and break it open to access the electronics and inner wiring. They then use the "smart" cap from the pack and rewire it to accept two 4S LiPo packs. MaxAmps.com also provides a mounting kit to attach the dual batteries to your Phantom 2 airframe.
In speaking with Josh I learned they flew their Phantom 2 with the dual battery arrangement and DJI's GoPro camera gimbal and it flew great with power to spare and approximately 15 minute flying times!
